Got the PCM for my 96 caravan in and the engine started right up! It actually runs better than I could remember. It used to vibrate, shudder when decelerating, and hard to start. I just tap the key in start position and starts right up, smooth idle and quick revs. PCM must of been giving problems for a long time. Never had a check engine light or I could try to make the engine light come on. Which is a symtom of a bad PCM as far as I know.

Also I put a new ignition coil, spark plugs, wires, cam and crank sensor. Because I didn’t want the PCM to be the problem, but it actually was when I was at the last thing to test what the problem could be. Even the factory service manual doesn’t mention that the pulse signal thingy inside the PCM would ground out inside and stop the spark plugs from firing.

The place I bought the PCM from was only $169, free VIN and mileage reprogram, and lifetime warranty. Put about 80 miles on it and not one problem.

Replaced the wiring covers with new ones and fixed the wires better than it was from the factory.

My electrical tape job and a new cam sensor on the top left.

Kinja'd!!!

This bundle of wires used to rub on the driveshaft, not anymore. Zip ties FTW :P

Hope to have the van for many years to come.

This was a problem for quite a while. My dad put new plugs, wires, and a coil pack on my mom’s 2003 Chrylser T&C with the 3.8L. After all that it still had a misfire because the number three coil wasn’t firing. Then, after some discussion with him over the phone, (I live 940 miles away) I convinced him to put in a new PCM. It fired right up and ran smoothly.

Chrysler never learns. I read that the new Wranglers have such problems too. So much for going off road when your PCM dies in the middle of nowhere :)
